Musical Monday! (Wicked). Curt Hansen in Next to Normal!
Hansen as Fiyero in Wicked.
For today's "Musical Monday," the weekly Monday post where I talk about seeing Wicked cast members in shows other than Wicked, I'm gonna write a little about seeing Curt Hansen in Next to Normal. Curt Hansen currently plays Fiyero on the 1st National Tour of Wicked, and I saw him onstage when he played Gabe on the 1st National Tour of Next to Normal, which opened in November 2010 and closed in August 2011. I saw the tour's opening performance in Cleveland, OH on June 7th 2011.I had seen the show the year before on Broadway with Kyle Dean Massey as Gabe. I am a huge fan of Kyle Dean and loved him in the role, so I didn't know what to expect.

Curt and Kyle Dean are very different, especially vocally. Curt was fantastic in the role, and I have the HARDEST time deciding who I liked better, and I think I prefer it to be that way. I loved hearing him sing, his voice is very distinctive and extremely strong, and "I'm Alive" in particular stood out to me, not only because that's Gabe's big number, but because he NAILED it. "There's a World" was also really awesome because that is where he got to show off the softer side of his singing voice. He worked very well with Alice Ripley and the relationship between he and Asa Somers' Dan was very believable. He and Emma Hunton harmonized beautifully in "Superboy and the Invisible Girl". He also couldn't have been kinder at the stage door. I loved getting to chat with him a little bit, he was very down to earth and genuine. I hope that I get to see him as Fiyero sometime very soon, because I have heard great things about his performance!
Hi Wicked fans! This website opened in June 2007, when I decided that since several people seemed not to enjoy my constant talking about and obsession with the show, I would put some of that passion and talkativeness online in the form of a fan blog! And I am glad I did! Flying High earned the Official Wicked Seal of Approval in August of 2009. In addition, it was honored by Wicked on October 23, 2013 in the "30 Days of Flight" event in celebration of Wicked's 10th Anniversary on Broadway, two qualifications that I am very proud of. I hope you enjoy it!

My name is Kyle, I am 20 years old, and a Junior studying Arts Administration at Penn State University. I have seen Wicked 23 times across the cities of NYC, Buffalo, Toronto, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Columbus, Toledo, Chicago and London.
This site was founded in June 2007 at age 11 as a way to keep involved in the Wicked world and not annoy everyone I met by constantly talking about it, and shortly after, it ended up blowing up. In 2009 it won the Official Wicked Seal of Approval, awarded to a limited number of Wicked fan sites. In 2013, it was recognized by Wicked's Facebook/Twitter page in honor of their 30 Days of Flight, celebrating the show's 10th Anniversary on Broadway.
I love Wicked but I also love other musicals! Pippin, The Book of Mormon, Les Mis, Miss Saigon, Next to Normal, If/Then, Kinky Boots, Spring Awakening, Hairspray and Newsies are some of my favorites! I perform constantly, my favorite recent role being Moritz in Spring Awakening at PSU, and I write my own music.
In addition, I love non musical theatre music as well. I am obsessed with Billboard Magazine and I love pop, rock, country, r&b, urban, dance, and so many different styles of music! If you love Kelly Clarkson, you would probably be a good friend of mine. Huge Mirfanda. In addition, I love skiing, playing tennis, and working out every day.
Thanks for stopping by! I hope you like this site!
