|Mark Evans as Elder Price|
and Derrick Williams as the General
For Today's Musical Monday, I will be writing a little about seeing Derrick Williams as the General in The Book of Mormon. Derrick was a member of the ensemble of the Original Broadway Cast of Wicked, before playing Fiyero in the Original First National Touring company of Wicked, and later returning to the Broadway company in the role twice. He then played Fiyero in the Chicago and Los Angeles companies.
I saw Derrick as the General (who shall not be named) in The Book of Mormon this summer in Cleveland. The General is not a huge role in the show but he is so funny even though he's based on someone who is real, and NOT funny to anyone who has come across him. However, this photo of Williams and fellow former Fiyero (alliteration!) Mark Evans describes Williams perfectly in the show. Just look at his face. His performance was cartoonish and perfectly exaggerated, and made me laugh quite a lot. He didn't sing much at all compared to the rest of the actors and characters which I think is unfortunate but the two seconds that he did were great, haha! I loved his scene at the end where he comes out for Hello!(Reprise). It was so funny even if I was expecting it. I hope to see him again live someday.
Sorry this one isn't as long as some of the others!
