Happy Wicked Day!

Christine Dwyer and Jenni Barber
Happy 11th Birthday to Wicked on Broadway!  On October 30, 2003, this gorgeous show opened at the George Gershwin Theatre on Broadway.  It received mixed reviews from critics, and did not win Best Musical, which could have easily been the end of this beautiful piece.  But 11 years later and it has become a global phenomenon, and out-run every competitor for the 2003 Tony Award for Best Musical by at least half a decade.  Oddly symbolic for a show about being yourself and not letting anyone bring you down.  Last year, Wicked celebrated 10 years on Broadway, and I have never seen such an outpouring of love from cast members and fans alike, and though some may not consider the show's 11th Birthday to be as big a deal, in the words of the 11th actress to play Elphaba on Broadway Mandy Gonzalez, "I'm number 11, so that right there is fabulous."
