Major Cast Changes on the 1st National Tour!

Wow! So much happens in such a short time! As previously announced, Emily Ferranti will replace Cristy Candler as Nessarose, however, some new news!

Mariand Torres leaves the company on January 29th, and will be replaced by Carla Stickler, the current understudy for Elphaba! :) Also, Lesley McKinnell will join the company as a Glinda u/s on February 1st, and rumor has it that former understudy Bud Weber will replace Kyle Dean Massey as Fiyero. However that last one is not confirmed! Will update when known for sure!

Anna Eilinsfeld to replace Laurel Harris in the Ensemble u/s Elphie on the 2NT!

New Cast Members announced for Both Tours!

Yesterday, December 18, 2011, marked a date where several cast members left Wicked, on both Tours. Stefanie Brown left the First National Tour as Nessarose, and, Christine Dwyer (Standby for Elphaba), Martin Moran (Dr. Dillamond), and Jody Gelb (Madame Morrible) all left the 2nd National Tour.

Replacements have been announced!

Cristy Candler will join the First National Tour tomorrow as Nessarose

Timothy Britten Parker will join the Second National Tour as Dr. Dillamond, and Marilyn Caskey will return to the role of Madame Morrible.

As previously announced, Stephanie Torns is the 2nd Tour's New Elphie standby! :)

Taylor Trensch will replace Etai BenShlomo as Boq January 24th!

Stephanie Torns will replace Christine Dwyer on the 2nd National Tour of Wicked as the Elphaba standby next week! :) Stephanie began her Wicked journey in 2008 on the 1st National Tour as the Understudy for Elphaba, and then moved to the Broadway company. I saw Steph as Elphaba in 2009 and she is beyond incredible. Anyone who has the privilidge of seeing her in the role, ENJOY! :)

I have two, well, really three favorites. Two of them I have seen live, and the other I have yet to see, but she absolutely blows my mind.

I have unbelieveable respect for anyone who can play this role. The role is probably the most physically/vocally/emotionally draining roles on Broadway right now, or ever for that matter. Elphaba belts into the stratosphere NON STOP throughout the show, and each of the actresses I have seen have made it look so easy. The two Elphabas that top out my list of Elphabas I have seen live are Christine Dwyer and Carmen Cusack. If you needed one answer, I would say Carmen.

Carmen's voice is completely unique in this role. If you have seen her, you know what I mean. If you have not, then you don't. If you go on youtube and search for her Wicked videos, you will probably not be very impressed, because videos do not capture the power in her voice. Her voice fills the theatre, and pins you to your seat. She has a very triumphant and loud sounding voice, which is perfect for big numbers such as Defying Gravity or No Good Deed, but it is also soft and pretty when it needs to be for numbers like I'm Not that Girl and For Good, and she makes the perfect transition between the two for songs like As Long as You're Mine and The Wizard and I She acted the role very very well, and was funny, and layered, and you can't help but scream for her when she comes out for curtain call :) Her chemistry with Katie and Meggie was exeptional.

Christine Dwyer is amazing for similar and different reasons. She is much more powerhouse, and she has a nasal sounding speaking voice (in an AWESOME way). She was very sarcastic and had awesome Chemistry with Natalie Daradich.

Donna Vivino is my other favorite. I have not seen her, but all I have seen online (which is A LOT) is amazing. She has the strongest voice I have ever heard in my life, and she sings the score with ridiculous ease. She acts the role very well, and you can tell she loves doing what she does. I hope to see her move to lead on Broadway after Jackie Burns finishes her contract! :) She led the tour for 2 years, and is certainly more than capable of leading the Broadway cast as lead Elphie! :)

Every single one of these talented ladies have brought something incredibly special to the role of Glinda. She is such a funny character, and lots of times ends up taking the title of funniest performer onstage, but also requires emotional depth, a legit soprano AND a strong belt, and the ability to do all of the above while running around the stage in a 30 pound dress. It is no easy job, especially as Glinda is onstage pretty much the whole show. Doing this night after night (especially when touring) has to be incredibly draining, and I admire everyone I have seen do it.

I have two favorite Glindas, KRC, and AJC, but if I had to pick just ONE, my favorite Glinda is Amanda Jane Cooper. She has incredible star quality. She stole the stage whenever she was on it. She had only been on with Mariand Torres once before I saw her, and it seemed like they had done it together a million times. "Popular" was a hoot. She literally hooped and hollered, and you could tell she was having tons of fun. Her sincere scenes were wonderful as well, and really well thought out. She was always in the moment.

So there ya go :) I will make one with my favorite Elphaba soon! :)

Katie Rose Clarke/Kyle Dean Massey return to 1st National Tour of Wicked Next Tuesday 11/15

HAPPY WICKED DAY! Today marks the 8 year Anniversary of WICKED'S Opening Night on Broadway! The show has since Opened in Los Angeles, San Francisco, London, Tokyo, Nagoya, Melbourne, Osaka, Oberhausen, Sydney, Stuttgart, Scheveningen (Netherlands), The Emerald City Tour (1st National), and Munchkinland Tour (2nd National) U.S. Tours, (which are currently booking into late 2013) an Australian Tour, and an upcoming Asian Tour. The show has literally taken over the world, and shows no signs of stopping! Happy Birthday Wicked!

"Unnaturally Green" a Wicked Memoir by Felicia Ricci (Happy 200th Post to Me!)

We have all heard that getting a professional gig in theatre is incredibly difficult. Well, in this book, Unnaturally Green Felicia proves that statement completely true. Felicia takes us to the first time she saw Wicked on Broadway, and describes how Elphaba became her dream role before the curtain fell at intermission. She takes us down her journey, through auditions and performances, failures, and struggles. She describes what it is like to live a life where at any given moment you could be thrown on, painted green, into the role of Elphaba in Wicked, and the pleasures and drawbacks of living such a life. She doesn't write diplomatically, or as one speaks on a talk show, talking about how perfect a time she is having, but rather is completely honest about her experiences and emotions. Describing how a dream role comes with its own set of challenges and difficulties. Not only is she completely honest about it all, but Felicia manipulates her words in a way that will chip away at your funny bone, and at moments have you laughing so hard that you cannot see the brilliantly written page in front of you. Felicia's blog always makes me laugh, but I was not expecting to laugh so hard I couldn't breathe. This book is absolutely a must read for any Wicked, or theatre fan in general, because it will leave you laughing, yet extremely inspired. This lady has many gifts, Singing, Acting, Dancing, and Writing. What Can't Felicia do?

An Interview with Tiffany Haas!

1.Did you see the show before you were a part of it? If so, where did you see it and who were your witches?

Yes, I saw the show when I was in college. I remember exactly where I was sitting in the Gershwin Theater on Broadway. I saw the original company. Little did I know that I would be soon be working with them, performing on that same stage and eventually meeting my husband... all in that same building.

2.What has it been like working with so many different casts of Wicked, and even meeting your husband through the show?
I've performed in the Broadway and 2nd National Tour companies. As the casts evolve and change, so does the energy on stage and the relationships and friendships off stage. Through both companies I've been able to learn some fabulous skills from other actors. I've tried to learn what I can from others and apply those lessons to myself.

3. What was your Broadway debut in WICKED like way back?
I will never forget my Broadway debut. It was a special night. As excited and grateful as I was (and still am), (you need a comma here) it's important to remember that the audience sometimes doesn't know or care. They are happily there to see a great show and most of them do not keep up with the cast comings and goings. As thrilling as it is to perform onstage, THE AUDIENCE is what keeps you grounded and brings you back to reality.

4. What was your very first audition for WICKED like? and how did you move through the ranks of Swing, Ensemble, Understudy, and now Leading Lady? Did they always want you to play Glinda, or was it something that occurred gradually?

Kristine Reese (a Nessarose from the 2nd National) and I went to college together in Cincinnati. We heard that auditions were being held in Chicago for Wicked so we decided to go and give it a shot. After singing a song, I was asked to come back and sing Popular and Kristine was asked to sing Defying Gravity. It didn't go any further at that point so we went back to school. After my college graduation, I moved to NYC... to start pounding the pavement. I was brought in for Wicked numerous times, to try the Glinda material, Nessa material, dance some of the choreography, etc. On about my 7th time auditioning I was cast as the female singer swing on Broadway. After spending about six months in the cast, there was an opening for a Nessarose cover. I auditioned and that was added to my swing position. While I was doing the show and loving it, I was always interested in the character of Glinda. I felt I understood her. After working on some other shows, I was able to come back to Wicked as the ensemble/Glinda understudy. Being a part of the show in different companies and in different roles has helped me to see all of the different ways this story can be told, all the different opinions the characters have, and so on. It helps to make the story, the show, the characters... bigger, if that makes sense.

6.Which company has been your favorite to work with?

Oooooo, I could never choose a favorite company!!! The Broadway company means the world to me. They were some of my first friends in NYC and we are still very close to this day. I met my wonderful husband in the company and I learned a lot as a performer through that experience. At the same time, the tour company has become my family. We travel the country together. They see my ups and downs... and I see theirs. And we don't judge! I was a swing, Nessa cover, ensemble member, Glinda cover and now Glinda with the tour. They have supported me and encouraged me in all of my different positions. And I need to give props to the tour cast and crew. They blow me away. Every few weeks we move to a new venue which can be extremely exhausting. The crew works hard through the night to make the stage and set look fabulous and the cast is able to perform as if they've been in that theater for a year. You'd never know they just completed a 10 hour drive or just flew in from the last city.

7. How long has your rehearsal process for Glinda been?

Since I was a part of the show for so long, my rehearsal process for learning Glinda went pretty quickly. However, I feel like I'm constantly growing and evolving with the role... and I hope I continue to do that.

8.What is your favorite scene and song in the show?

I'm very girly! I love pink, I love makeup, and I love fashion so naturally I love Popular! I also really love the opening of the show. It takes ALL OF US working together to set the tone for what the audience is about to experience. In the opening, I'm able to make eye contact with almost every cast member on stage and I think that is very important for us in terms of connecting with each other and being reminded that we are all telling this story together. And, I love them and we get to smile at each other.

10. Costume?

Oh please don't make me choose! I love everything in Glinda's closet. EVERYTHING!!!

11. What would you say really motivates you through two show days?

My motivation on two show days is the audience. And yes, it is tiring... but it's the people in the audience who are coming to our show to hear and see the story being told. It is our job, our duty, and our privilege to tell this story twice in one day.

12. What is the biggest adjustment moving from understudying Glinda to playing her every night?

The biggest adjustment from taking over the role full time is learning to pace myself.

13. What have your favorite mishaps been that may have occurred when you were onstage?
I have a few that are pretty long to type out. Can I get back to you on those?? (My answer, SURE :p)

14. What was your first show as Glinda like? Nessarose?
My first show as Nessa and Glinda were very similar. They were surreal experiences, where you feel a little bit like you've been shot out of a cannon. You have to just keep going and going, trust that you know and where you're supposed to be. Then, before you know it, the curtain comes down and it feels like only ten minutes have passed by.

15.How did you react when you got the call to play full time Glinda?

I screamed into a pillow because my tour roommate, Courtney Iventosch, was sleeping. I was beside myself and I still am and I continue to bring that gratitude on stage with me every night.

16. What are some of your favorite Stage Door Stories?

While I love and adore every fan who comes to stage door (thank you for your love and support) YES, I do have a favorite stage door story about a little girl in Fresno, CA who blew me away and was absolutely precious. But I must say that it's something between my cast and me and shall remain our little story. I will tell you she was dressed as Elphaba and gave me a pretty hard Q&A about being a performer in Wicked. The details are our little secret! We have to keep some things for ourselves!!

17. Finally, and obviously the most important question, how do you like the name "Gliffany"?
Hmmm, I see... you put Glinda and Tiffany together and you got Gliffany. Very creative work! Thank you so much for your support. I am so honored to be a part of this special show!

Natalie Daradich and Michelle London take their final bows tonight on the 2nd National Tour in Pittsburgh as Glinda and Nessarose respectively. Natalie was a part of the original Los Angeles, opening in 2007, as an ensemble member and understudy for Nessarose. She later was made an understudy for Glinda. She remained in the ensemble until November 2008, when she replaced Emily Rozek as the standby for Glinda, and closed out the LA company as the standby. She transferred with the show to San Francisco as the Standby for Glinda and Nessarose, departing the San Francisco company in February 2010 to replace Helené Yorke as Glinda on the 2nd National Tour. While playing *full time* Glinda,She has starred opposite Marcie Dodd, Vicki Noon, and Anne Brummel, and performed opposite Christine Dwyer and Laurel Harris. Michelle London first joined the show in Summer 2008, with the Chicago company as an ensemble member and understudy for Glinda. She transferred to the 2nd National tour when it first opened as u/s Glinda and Nessarose. She temporarily replaced Kristine Reese as Nessarose in early 2010, and then returned to her normal track. She temporarily replaced Brynn O' Malley as Nessarose on the 1st National Tour, and then returned to the 2nd Tour as Nessa in October 2010. Goodbye Teal Wicks and Katie Rose Clarke!

Teal Wicks and Katie Rose Clarke take their final bow as Elphaba and Glinda respectivley today after several years in the show. Teal Wicks joined the show in Los Angeles as the Standby for Elphaba on January 1, 2008, as Caissie Levy's standby. She replaced Caissie as Elphaba in May 2008 and played the role until Halloween. Teal was the original Elphaba in the San Francisco company of Wicked, Opening at the Orpheum theatre in February 2009, and played the role through February 2010. Teal joined the Broadway company of Wicked on January 29th, 2011. Katie Rose Clarke joined the show in November 2007, starring opposite Carmen Cusack as Elphaba, and later on Donna Vivino (current Broadway Standby). She departed the 1st National Tour on August 15th 2009, replaced by Chandra Lee Schwartz. Katie joined the Broadway company on January 16th 2010, replacing Erin Mackey. In her nearly 4 years with Wicked She has starred opposite Carmen Cusack, Donna Vivino, Dee Roscioli, Mandy Gonzalez and Teal Wicks, and performed opposite Jennifer DiNoia, Merideth Kaye Clark, and Stephanie Torns. I went to see WICKED's second national tour in Pittsburgh last night. It was the first time I have seen the Second National Tour, and It was absolutely amazing. Before the show, I stage doored, but I did not think I was going to, so it was very unexpected and cool :) I met several people before the show, but not everyone, because we left earlier than usual to get into the theatre. The first person to come in was Peter C. Ermides, who was on for Dr. Dillamond. He came in and asked me if I was seeing the show and I said yes. I told him I saw him in the Chicago company and he seemed impressed that I would remember that. He stood outside and told me that he was on and such, and then went in! The next people in were Michael McCory Rose (ensemble u/s Fiyero) and Jody Gelb (Madame Morrible) Michael signed first and asked my name, and Jody said "You're Kyle? I thought that might have been you!" (I told her I was coming). She signed and I asked for a picture. She laughed and said "Can I do that after the show? I'm not photogenic right now..." The next people in were Daniel Torres (ensemble u/s Fiyero) and K.C. Fredericks (Chistery). They asked me my name, and I told them, and they recognized me! They thanked me for coming and seemed very impressed that it was my 12th time at the show! Next was Linda Griffin. She signed my stuff, asked my name, said thanks and walked in :) Next in was Christine Dwyer. I saw her walking toward the stage door, and I knew she was on. She walked up with a huge smile on her face and said "Hey!" and I told her I was so excited to see her! She said "Oh well please pray for me, I'm battling a sore throat, I hope I'll get it done!" and I told her she would be great. She asked me where I was from and we took a picture and she thanked me and told me she would see me after :) Right after Christine was Don Amendolia (The Wizard) I told him my name and that I got his letter the other day and he said "Oh wow cool!" and signed my stuff, and said "Thanks Kyle!" Right behind him was David Nathan Perlow (Fiyero) who signed and took a picture with me. He was very nice! Next in was Don Richard (Witch's Father/Ozian Official). He arrived via bike, and I asked him to sign and he was so incredibly nice. He asked me my name, where I was from and how many times I had seen the show. He has been doing the show for 6 years and he is still so enthusiastic with his fans, and seemed so excited to be there. Next in were Erin Wilson (Ensemble u/s Morrible) Justin Wirick (Ensemble) and Casey Quinn (Swing) They all signed, and Justin told me to cheer extra loud for them all because they could hear. I told Erin that I had written her twice and she asked my name, and she immediately said "Nice to meet you finally Kyle!" and thanked me for coming. Justin asked where I was from and I told him, and he said he has friends who live here :) Ryan Jackson (Ensemble) was next in, and he asked me how many times I had seen the show, and I said 12, and he was like "OH NICE!" and thanked me. Samantha Farrow (Ensemble) came in next and I told her that I had gotten an email from one of the fans of this site saying what an extraordinary dancer she was, and she seemed really grateful and happy :) She told me Natalie was on her way. She signed and went to get coffee. Next in was Dan Pacheco (Boq). I introduced myself and he immediately remembered me from my letter that I wrote him. He told me it was nice to officially meet me finally and thanked me and went in. Lauren Haughington was next in and she signed and I told her it was my 12th time, and she said "Wow! Enjoy the show!" and went in. Courtney Iventosch was next in and she was very nice and signed and asked me my name and where I was from. After her, we packed up and left. Natalie Daradich (Glinda) hadn't come in, so I wondered if she was running late, and sure enough as we rounded the corner to get into the theatre, I saw her walking with Natalie Fotopoulos. I asked them if they had time to sign, and Natalie said "Can I do it after the show?" and I said "Oh absolutely!" and she apologized and headed toward the stage door.

The show was absolutely amazing.

Christine Dwyer was so incredibly amazing as Elphaba. Her "Wizard and I" gave me chills. I noticed a lot of things that she did were so effective. When The Witch's father gives Nessarose the shoes, Christine looked into the box almost as if to see if there was something for her, and Don snapped it shut in her face. She was very good in her scenes with Natalie and Peter, even though she flubbed a line in the "Something Bad" scene. I was impressed with her in the popular scene, a scene in which Natalie did some ad-libbing. "I'm Not that Girl" was absolutely amazing too. I thought she really brought new emotion to it, and her low notes were phenomenal. Her train station scene was great. I laughed at so many points. "One Short Day" was wonderful, I love that song so much. She was so hurt when the Wizard revealed he had just sort of used her, and she sounded ready to cry. Defying Gravity was intense. She stayed in her chest voice the whole time on the softer notes, and I got chills. When she rose into the air.... oh my gosh. She was so LOUD, and the whole moment was just incredible. Her first "Meeee dowwwwwwwn" was incredible. Her Act 2 was very solid. The Governors' mansion scene got tons of applause, especially "Well there's no place like home!" "As Long as You're Mine" with David was absolutely amazing. The Catfight was hilarious, Christine imitated Natalie through most of it and the audience ate it up, and then she gave one of the most vocally solid "No Good Deeds" I have ever heard. For Good was wonderful. She and Natalie were actually crying which really added to the whole moment. The Finale was gorgeous as well.

Natalie Daradich was hilarious, moving, and just so bubbly as Glinda. She laughed a LOT, in that little Glinda Cackle. "No One Mourns the Wicked" was very solid, and after she explains Elphaba's birth, and the ensemble starts singing "No One Mourns the Wicked" again, she looked startled, as though she was thinking "I just clarified this!" She was hilarious in the Shiz scene, calling Elphaba phosphorescent was hilarious. The audience loved her. After Dwyer's "Wizard and I" which earned her cheers and screams, Natalie grabbed everyone's attention again which most would think impossible after such an amazing number. WITF was great. In DTL she reminded me of Megan Hilty a LOT. She touched David a lot, and was very tossy with her hair, and did her little spazzy motions. Popular was a hoot. She went crazy. Not as crazy as Katie, but still very crazy. She ran around and when she took Christine's glasses off, she added (In a whisper) "I'm just gonna put these back onnnnnnn." Which made me laugh out loud. She was great in the Wizard's chamber scene, and when Don was singing to Christine, she was nodding encouragingly. In DG, when she says "You can have all you ever wanted" and Christine says "I know" Natalie threw her head back relieved, and then "But I don't want it" she looked shocked. Her "Thank Goodness" brought the house down. She was very emotional the whole time, and really made me believe that Glinda was going through a crisis. "INTG(r)" was amazing too. She cried during that. She elongated a lot of Glinda's lines in the catfight scene, but it worked and it was so funny. For Good and Finale were beautifully sung as well. She cried a LOT during both. She did an AMAZING job.

David Nathan Perlow was excellent as well. He was much better than Richard H. Blake, who is awesome in the role, but I preferred David. He sang the score very straight, no riffing or changes to the score at all, but he was very into what he was doing and had amazing Chemistry with Christine. In Dancing Through Life, when Christine storms offstage, he looked after her regretfully until Natalie cut in and started hitting on him. He did a great job with DTL. His dancing was great, as was his singing. His scenes in Dillamond's room and the Lion Cub scene were very well acted and funny. He did an awesome Train Station scene too. His act two was much more serious. He did a great job in "Thank Goodness" when telling Natalie he would marry her if it'd make her happy, almost like he really DIDN'T mind getting married, which added to her heartbreak. When he runs off with Elphaba, and Glinda says "so all of this time behind my back...?" He was hilarious in the way he executed those lines, and ALAYM was great too. WONDERFUL voice. The Catfight reflected how funny he could be without actually speaking that much, which I appreciated. He did a great job in his final scene with Dwyer.

Dan Pacheco was great as Boq. I thought he added a level of depth to Boq that I have seen really only from Brad Weinstock and Adam Sanford before. He was naive, but also didn't mind being walked all over. He didn't belittle himself as much as the Boq's usually do, which was a cool effect. He recognized that he had more to offer to the world and that he shouldn't be treated the way he was. He had great chemistry with Michelle London, they were very cute together onstage. Michelle was great as Nessarose. She did not quite have the vocal prowess of Carla Stickler, but she is a soprano, and it worked very well for the lighter softer Nessarose. Nessa was a huge bee-yotch in act two, which is always fun to watch. She really snapped at Elphaba a lot. I think she should continue with this role in another company, or play Glinda full time. Peter C. Ermides was awesome as Dillamond. I really really liked his voice. He has a higher softer voice than most of the Dillamonds I have seen, which I really liked, and In act two, something that he did, which was BRILLIANT, was when Christine said "Don't you remember me?" He grabbed her hands and looked shocked, as if he remembered that green girl in his class 2 years before. That was a BRILLIANT move on his part. Jody Gelb was Deliciously Horrible as Madame Morrible. I REALLY enjoyed the way she played the role. She was a sly lady who knew JUST where to strike, and didn't care how it affected anyone else. She has a nice singing voice too, which is great for Morrible. Don Amendolia was a great Wizard. He is a great actor, and a good singer. He was brainlessly evil, not really knowing what he was doing, but not caring either, just wanting to stay in power. He got a lot of applause when he danced, and his hand motions were great. His reaction to finding out Elphaba was his daughter was one of the best I have seen.

The Ensemble and Orchestra were amazing as well. The set of this show is slightly different than the Broadway and 1st National Tour. Broadway and 1NT are basically Identical. This one has a few minor differences. First, In Madame Morrible's Defying Gravity Speech, she does not come out onto any sort of platform, her voice simply comes on over the stage. The Bridge in "INTG" and "TG" is not real as is is in the other productions, it is 2D, so Fiyero and Glinda come out stage left and have their moment while Elphaba is singing, and in TG, no one is on the bridge. There are way less vines and cogs on the sides of the stage compared to Broadway and 1NT. Other than those minor differences, the three U.S. Productions are identical!

Stage Door: I am not describing full conversations at all. :p
I went back to the Stage Door after the show, and almost Immediatley half the cast came out. Tiffany Haas was one of the first people out. Tiffany is taking over as Glinda next tuesday. She came over and asked me if I was Kyle, and she talked to me for a very long time telling me it was so great that we finally got to meet and thanking me over and over for the support and stuff. She is such a nice lady, and I am so excited for her that she is replacing as Glinda after nearly 7 years in the show as a swing and understudy. Linda Griffin was next out and she signed my stuff and thanked me for coming and left. Michelle London, Dan Pacheco, David Nathan Perlow, Casey Quinn, Natalie Fotopoulos and Michael Rose were next out ALL AT ONCE. So they all signed, and I told Michelle she was great and same to Dan. She thanked me and Natalie asked me if I was in theatre, and I told them yes, I am actually in 2 shows right now, and told them which ones and who I played, and they told me that was awesome! Michelle and Dan took a picture with me. Dan said "Anne sends her regrets" (She actually tweeted me during act one apologizing for not being there) and then he made direct eye contact and thanked me for all the support and stuff and that it meant a lot, and I thanked him and told him he was so great. I told Casey that we were Facebook friends, and then told her who I was, and she remembered me. Erin Wilson, Lauren Haughington, and Laurel Harris were next out. Erin said "Hey Kyle!" and Laurel turned and said "Oh you're Kyle?! It's so nice to meet you!" (she remembered from my letter) and they all three signed and Erin thanked me one more time, and Laurel shook my hand.Peter Ermides and Samantha Farrow were next, and they both thanked me and signed, and called me by name! Marissa Miller was next out and I asked her if she was Marissa, and she said yes! and asked who I was. I told her and she said "Oh Its so nice to finally meet you! How were your seats?" and I told her where we sat and that she did a great job, and she thanked me over and over and told me it was so nice to meet me. Such a nice girl! Jody Gelb and Don Amendolia were next out. They both signed, and called me by name, and thanked me so much for coming, and both took pictures with me. The big wait was on. Most of the cast was out by 11. Christine and Natalie were the two big ones we were waiting for. Well, we weren't sure if they were coming out, so I turned around to look down the street, and when I turned back around they were BOTH standing right there. I told them both how amazing they were, and they did a great job. I asked Christine how on earth she can sing the way she does with a sore throat. She thanked me, and I had her sign my Grimmerie, which she loved. Natalie came over and apologized for not being able to sign before the show, and she signed all my stuff. I then showed her my grimmerie, and she laughed, and wrote "I <3 being a bobblehead, or a bubblehead, Natalie xoxo" They both knew my name and stuff too :) I got pictures with both of them. We talked for a few more minutes about random stuff, and then Christine said "I feel like I actually have mail for you...here, cause I feel like i just found a whole bunch of lost mail..." and I said " I actually got the picture you sent when you started as standby, but you might have the one I sent when you started as understudy!" and she told me she was glad I got the picture and that if it was mail for me she would send it soon! After talking a bit more, we all left. It was an awesome night!

Mamie Parris will replace Dee Roscioli as Elphaba 10/4

Alma Cuervo is Madame Morrible on Tour 1!

Alma Cuervo is once again set to return to the role of Madame Morrible on the first National Tour of Wicked, beginning performances tomorrow night! She replaces Randy Danson. Alma joins the 1st National Tour Directly from three weeks on the 2nd National Tour. Alma played Madame Morrible in Wicked originally in 2006 on the 1st National Tour, replacing Carol Kane. She left the company in early 2007 for 9 months, replaced by Barbara Tirrell, and returned to the company in November 2007, and remained with the show through July 2008, replaced by Myra Lucretia Taylor. I have seen her three times in this role, and she is my personal favorite, and I am so excited to hopefully catch her in the role again very soon! :) Congratulotions Alma!

"Wicked A Musical Biography" by Paul R. Laird

Hey Wicked fans! I bought the new book, "Wicked, A Musical Biography" by Paul R. Laird. Some of you may be wondering what this book...is. Well, the way I would describe it would be an updated Grimmerie, without all the pictures. This book features many extremely exciting things that fans of the musical and the book will appreciate. The first few chapters compare the plot of the book to the plot of the musical. There are full sypnosis' of early versions of the Wicked script, which cannot be found anywhere else. Lots of great information about how the songs came to be, and there is actually a comparison of the Broadway company to the Touring company and the technical differences.

I would really suggest this book highly. It is fairly pricy, ($39.99 at Barnes and Noble) but If you are a Wicked fan of any kind, I would say this is almost essential to your collection! Enjoy!

Goodbye to Jennifer DiNoia and Laura Woyasz

I would just like to make a post thanking Broadway's two AMAZING standbys, Jennifer DiNoia and Laura Woyasz, who will end their contracts this Sunday, August 21st on Broadway after NEARLY 3 years as WICKED's witchy standbys together, and for Laura, temporary Glinda earlier this year. I saw Jenny as Elphie last year and she was absolutely phenomenal, she has a VERY strong voice, and wonderful acting chops, and she will be missed. Laura, though I have not seen her as Glinda, is so funny, and very talented, and she will go far. They both will :)

Jennifer DiNoia has been with WICKED since 2006, when she joined the Chicago company as a swing understudying Nessarose and Elphaba. She replaced Carmen Cusack as the Standby for Elphaba in late 2007, and continued as standby until the show closed on January 25th, 2009. She returned to Wicked less than 3 weeks later in the Broadway company replacing Julie Reiber as the standby for Elphaba, leaving for a 6 week period at the end of 2009 to standby in Sydney.

Laura Woyasz has also been a part of WICKED since 2006, when she joined the 1st National tour cast as an understudy for Glinda. She remained with the show on the road until March 2008, and was moved out to the LA company as the standby for Glinda, where she remained until the end of the year. Laura joined the Broadway company of Wicked as the standby for Glinda, like Jenny, in February 2009. She temporarily replaced Katie Rose Clarke for 6 weeks (Katie was still billed as Glinda in the Playbill) earlier this year while Katie was on medical leave.

We welcome 1NT alum Donna Vivino to the position of Standby for Elphaba, and Wicked in Chicago alum Kate Fahrner to the position of Standby for Glinda on Tuesday, August 23rd. Good luck to all 4!

The First Thing I am posting is My Stage Door Experience from before the matinee. I arrived a bit after noon at the Stage Door. Usually most cast members come in starting a bit after one, but whoever is playing Elphaba is mostly always at the theatre around 12:30, and some of the other big stars come next. I arrived, and after about 10 minutes of waiting, I saw Kyle Dean Massey, who just returned to the role of Fiyero yesterday, walking down the street toward the Theatre. "Are you Kyle?" "Yeah!" "Will You sign these?" is how the conversation began. I told him I saw his first ever performance as Fiyero, and Next to Normal, and he seemed very interested, and thanked me for coming, and went in. He is so nice every time I have met him. Kathy Santen was next in, and I told her I saw her in Chicago, and a few times on Broadway and she said that Chicago felt like a long time ago. I asked if Teal was already inside and she said that she probably was not due to it being so early. Kathy is always one of the first in, and A.L.W.A.Y.S. the first out, but she does not sign after shows, she runs away :p But she is always so nice before the show. To be honest, I do not quite remember the order in which people came in after Kyle Dean and Kathy (S). It is a blur, but what I am going to do is list off cast members in no particular order, and describe what happened. I quite literally met every single person who was on in the show.

I met Teal Wicks, which was insane for me, because she is a Wicked legend. She was in a huge rush, but stopped and signed.
I asked her if she would be on for the evening show, and she said yes, and I told her to have a great show, and she smiled at me and went in. She is such a nice person. Katie Rose Clarke arrived, and stopped and signed for me. I told her I would be seeing her as Glinda that night for the third time, and she seemed very excited by that. I had her sign another picture in the Grimmerie that I put her face in over Kendra Kassebaum's, and told her it was nothing against Kendra at all, but I felt like Katie too, belonged in the Grimmerie. Richard H. Blake was very nice as well, and signed my stuff, and I told him I saw him in Cleveland in 09, and he was very pleased that I remembered. He is a very very nice guy. He told me to enjoy the show! Tom McGowan was also really really nice. He signed my stuff even though He had coffee and a bag in his hands, and asked me if it was my first time at the show, to which I responded that it was my 11th. He seemed very surprised and pleased at that. Kathy Fitzgerald is one of the nicest ladies I have ever met. She arrived, but was on the phone, and actually WAITED outside to finish her conversation so that she could talk to me! She signed my stuff, and my 9 to 5 Playbill. She talked about how 9 to 5 was such a great show and she did not understand why it closed, and about how the critics slammed it, and all the competition that year. I told her that it was such a great show, as did my dad, and she thanked us. I told her it was my 11th time at the show, and she said "Oh wow, have you been backstage yet?" and told me she was giving her family members a tour that night, and that she would be happy to include me. She thanked me for coming, and then walked in! Cristy Candler was very nice. I told her it was my 11th time seeing the show and she said "Oh? I'm an Original Cast member so you probably saw me sometime in there" and I told her that I saw her as Nessarose in 09 with Alli and Nicole. She then asked me why I had come back to the show so many times, and I told her that it was just so amazing in every way, and never gets old, and I would never get tired of it. She thanked me for coming, and I wished her a great show. Eddie Pendergraft, who was on for Boq that day was very nice, and I asked him if he was on, he said yes, and signed. He is a nice guy! Tom Flynn arrived, and I told him he was my favorite Dillamond, and he smiled and thanked me, and then he asked my name, and I said Kyle, and he interrupted himself, and said "Oh, Kyle *my last name*?! You look so much older!" and remembered me from the tour. I thought that in particular was amazing. He thanked me for coming, and then went in. I met Laura Woyasz. Apparently she is quite elusive to the stagedoor on Broadway, because no one i know has met her since she did the show on the road! But as she was going in, I called out her name, and she came back out, and signed, and talked to me for a bit. I told her I saw her on the tour two times, and that she was great, and she thanked me etc... Stephanie Torns walked up, and needed absolutley no reminding as to who I was. She came up and said "Hey Kyle! How are things! You get older every time I see you!" I talked to her for a while, and she signed, and went in. I saw her heading toward the dressing room door, and I realized I forgot to have her sign my Grimmerie picture. I called her name again, and had her sign the pic of her in the grimmerie. She threw her head back and laughed for quite a while, and said that it was the funniest thing she has ever seen, and signed, and told me to hold it, and she would take a picture on her phone. She did, and I later found out that she actually uploaded it to her facebook. Lindsay K. Northen came in and signed for me and asked me how I was as always :) I told her it was the 11th time I was seeing the show and she smiled. She is always really nice. Jared Bortz was very nice as well. He came in in sort of a rush, so I apologized for stopping him and he told me it was not a problem at all and he did not mind signing. he signed my stuff, and went in. Anthony Galde came in and I said hey and asked him to sign. He did, and then said "Oh yeah, I remember you, hey!" and I asked why Emerald Curtain had been cancelled that morning, and he told me that the numbers for that morning had been down, so they didn't do it. I thanked him for signing, and next was Robin Wilner, who signed my stuff and was very nice as usual. Constantine Rousouli came in and I asked him to sign, and asked if it was my first time seeing the show and I told him it was my 11th, and
he seemed very impressed:) Betsy Werbel was next in, and I told her I saw her on tour, and she asked where. I told her Cleveland and Buffalo, and she said "Nice, Cleveland's my hometown!!" and thanked me for coming. Jesse JP Johnson, the new Boq understudy came in and signed and thanked me for coming, and we talked a little bit, and he seemed to be really into the conversation :) Briana Yacavone was in a huge rush, but willingly stopped and signed my stuff, and was very nice as always and remembered me :) Kristina Fernandez came in, and I told her I saw her in "In The Heights" in 2010 and she was very nice, and stood and talked to me for about 5 minutes, asking me if I did theatre, and if I loved singing and acting and everything. She is a very nice girl. Jonathan Warren came in, and signed for me and thanked me for coming. He is always very nice. Nova Bergeron,
who is always one of my favorite people to meet at the stage door came in and recognized me and talked to me for a bit. Kelly LaFarga also remembered me from Buffalo. "I totally remember you!" were her exact words :) (I seem to get the same universal swings every time I go see the show, the ones who do all of the U.S. companies, which is so cool). Alicia Albright came in and asked me a lot of questions about myself with a huge smile on her face, an signed. She is also very nice. Adam Sanford came in and I told him that I saw him as Boq in Buffalo and he liked that. He signed and thanked me for coming again. Kristen Leigh Gorski (Kristen Gorski-Wergeles is her last name in the Playbill now) came in next and signed for me, and was very nice as usual. Mark Shunkey signed for me, and I told him that I always got him confused for Brad whenever I would see him, but no longer did. :) He was very nice and signed my stuff. Brian Wanee was next in, and signed my stuff, and we chatted for a few minutes. Nathan Peck came in and signed, and recognized me from last year. Colby Lindeman came in and signed and thanked me for coming. Jonathan McGill and Alexander Quirgoa arrived at exactly the same time, and both signed, and thanked me for coming. Kevin Jordan came through, said hey, and signed my stuff as well, and went in. After that, I went to go see RENT which I reviewed below :)

I saw Wicked at 8. The show was phenomenal as always. Teal Wicks was a very strong Elphaba. Her voice is absolutley outstanding. She gave me chills in Defying Gravity, and her No Good Deed was the strongest NGD I have ever heard, she hit those high notes with force and a vocal prowess that was so incredibly impressive. I got chills during Defying Gravity, as usual, but when she hit that ending note, I was pinned to my seat and found myself unable to clap for a few seconds because I was so impressed. Last time that happened to me was seeing Carmen in Buffalo. Her "Wizard and I" was very strong also, though of her big numbers, it is not her strongest. Like I said however, it was very very impressive. Her hopeful smile filled the theatre, and I felt so bad knowing she was not going to get what she wanted. She had excellent Chemistry with Tom Flynn in all their scenes together. "I'm Not That Girl" was really well done too. When Richard and Katie crossed the bridge, she ran under it, and looked up just in time to see them kiss, and looked at the ground again. Her chemistry with Katie Clarke was amazing, and you could tell they were having a great time up there. She sounded wonderful in "For Good" as well. Teal Wicks is tied with Carmen Cusack as my favorite Elphaba, though if you were to ask me who my favorite Elphaba is, with only one answer, I would still say Carmen. Katie Rose Clarke is the only Glinda I have seen multiple times, and she really keeps the role fresh, interesting, and funny. I loved her "No One Mourns the Wicked." I think it is the strongest I have ever heard her do it. Her soprano sounds lovely. And she had no trouble with any of the notes. She really looks shocked at herself when she calls Elphaba wicked, and shocked at what the ensemble is saying, which is something I have noticed all three times I have seen her. I loved her in "What is This Feeling" too. She hopped around, and really took control of the stage. Especially on the "Yes, aaaaaaaah!" when Teal knocked her out of center stage, she gave her a "well thennnnnnn" look, and kept going. I loved it. She really shined that night. Popular with Katie Clarke is always a guaranteed hoot. I loved her in this number as usual, she makes me laugh so hard every time she does it. And Teal seemed really bewildered by her, which I thought was hilarious as well. The first time I saw Katie, her Popular was outrageously over the top, which I appreciated, the second time, it was a bit more toned down, and this time, it was about the same, and she still makes it funny, and looks interested in what she is doing even though she has been playing Glinda for nearly 4 years. She did a great job with Tom in the Wizard scene, and she was excellent in Defying Gravity, even though that number just... belongs to Elphaba. Her "Thank Goodness" was very strong, and she was great at convincing Richard, and her voice cracked when she called out his name when he left, which I thought added to the moment, because it sounded more like emotion. I loved her in For Good as usual, and she is still very invested in the show. Even though Amanda is my favorite, no one can top Katie's finale. It is always so incredibly sad watching her sing it, yet I always feel triumphant after she does. She is tied with Amanda Jane Cooper as Favorite Glinda. If you asked me, I would probably still say Amanda, but Katie is so strong in this role. Richard H. Blake was awesome as Fiyero. He cut a few notes short in Dancing Through Life, but he maintained a very strong vocal performance and made the audience laugh a lot, though not as much as Colin Hanlon. He had great chemistry with Teal in "As Long As You're Mine," which I really liked and he sang the song itself very well too. Again, he played a very mature Fiyero, which is partially due to the fact that he is several years older than Teal and Katie, but it does not make his performance any less awesome. Tom McGowan was very strong in the role of the Wizard. He made the audience laugh a lot more than I remember a Wizard ever getting, which I thought was interesting. He sang his songs very well, and seemed like a charming man who knew what he was doing, but was not sure whether or not he should feel bad about it. Kathy Fitzgerald was absolutely wonderful as Madame Morrible, and is one of my favorites. She rrrrrrolled her "r's" over-exaggeratedly and had great chemistry with Teal and Tom M, and F :) She actually sang her part in Wizard and I, which I really liked. And SCREAMED that speech in "DG" She was very convincing in the role. Cristy Candler was also very strong as Nessarose. She does not have the power behind her voice that Carla Stickler or Deedee Magno Hall have, but she does have a very pretty voice, with exceptional strength. I loved watching her in the Gov's Mansion scene with Teal. Eddie Pendergraft was very good as Boq. He was not a whiny Boq, he was more of a "sorry to bother you Glinda" Boq. He has one of the strongest voices of any Boq I have seen. He really sang "Witch Hunters" well, which I appreciated :) Not as good as Brad, but he is up there :) Tom Flynn, as usual, made Dr. Dillamond very likeable, and funny. I enjoy watching him onstage. He has a great voice, and his bleat was very funny as usual. He made me laugh, and he is the best in the act two scene with Elphaba and the Wizard, when Elphaba asks him if he remembers her, and he bleats, and you can always tell he is trying to say "yes". I enjoyed his performance immensley. The Ensemble was very strong, not quite as strong as the ensemble on the 1NT, but strong nonetheless. I enjoyed picking out Stephanie Torns, Lindsay K. Northen, and Briana Yacavone out. The orchestra was great too!

I went to the stage door after the performance, and met most of the cast. Nova Bergeron was first out, and she signed out stuff, and talked to me for a few moments. I told her Kathy said I could go backstage, but I did not know if I was supposed to go back, or to wait at the Stage Door, and she suggested that I wait for Kathy to come out, so I stayed. Briana was next, and she signed, and apologized for being in such a rush that morning. I asked her if she got my letter, and she said she did, and she would return it as soon as she got access to a Playbill (I actually got her response today :) ) and she thanked me for coming again. I told her that I kept picking her out in the ensemble, and that she was great, and she thanked me. Next was Kelly LaFarga and Lindsay K. Northen. They both signed, and I told them that they were great. They are so nice! Next was.... DONNA FRIGGIN VIVINO, who as most of you know, is coming in to replace Jenny DiNoia next week, and I am assuming that she was there to rehearse, but she did not make an official statement. I asked her to sign my stuff, and take a picture, and she stood there and talked to me for a good 10 minutes. She told me she saw the show that night, and that she loved it, and then I thanked her for coming out to meet me, and she said no problem. We talked for a while, and then I introduced her to my dad, and brother. She asked when I was coming back, and I said probably next spring. Then we talked even MORE. She left after a few more minutes. I. Love. Donna. Next out were Betsy, Tornsie, and Kristen. They all signed, and Steph asked how I was doing, and if I enjoyed the show. I told her I would send her a copy of the grimmerie picture, and we discussed one of our mutual friends from my hometown. Eddie Pendergraft came out next, and signed, and I told him what a great voice he had, and he thanked me for saying that, and smiled. Michael DeVries, who was back in the show after being out of the matinee came down and I asked him to sign, and he said he would be happy to :) I told him he was great and he said thank you. Tom McGowan was next, and he came down and signed my stuff, and I told him he did a great job and he thanked me. Tom Flynn came right to me, and called me by name, and asked me how I liked the show. I told him it was amazing as always and he signed. Then he said thanks Kyle, can I borrow your marker and bring it back? I said yes, and off he went :) Colby was next out and thanked us for coming and signed my stuff :D Tom came back down the line and handed me my sharpie saying "Had you seen Teal before?" I said no, and he said he was glad I enjoyed the show and "Thanks so much for coming, we'll see you soon!" Cristy Candler was out next and signed my stuff again, telling me it was great to see me again and thanking me for coming. We then waited for about 2o minutes with no one coming out. Finally, the door opened and Teal Wicks walked out, and came over to sign my stuff. Right behind her was Katie Rose, and Kathy Fitzgerald. Kathy came to me and said "Oh! Sweetie, you didn't come back!" and I told her I thought I was supposed to wait outside and she said "Oh My Gosh, I am so sorry! I should have told you!" (So, the backstage thing did not happen, but it is ok :) ) she was very nice about it, and signed my stuff. Teal and Katie signed my poster and Teal Signed the playbill (I went back for KRC later) and I had Katie sign the picture of us from 2010. She did, and I was thanking her for all of the amazing performances I had seen from her and the whole time she was smiling, and Teal was going "Awwww!" when Teal saw the picture, she said "That's so precious!" and Teal signed my grimmerie, and laughed at the picture. I asked her to write something funny and sign it, and she wrote "Best Witches, Teal Wicks" She said "You have probably seen this before, and it isn't that funny, but it's all I can think of!" I then had Katie sign the playbill, and people signed in her spot so she took a minute, and then said "Ok, you know, this is muh spot, I am signing here" :) I then left the stage door to take a picture with the Big Wicked poster outside the main doors, but then I remembered that I had my gifts for the cast, and I had complteley forgotten to get them out. So I ran back to the stage door (by now everyone was gone) and called out Teal and Katie's names, and they turned around. I gave them their gifts, and Teal went "Oh... oh my gosh, did you draw this? That's my face!" and Katie said something very similar, and they kept thanking me, and I asked them if they could give the rest of the drawings to the other cast members. Teal said "Yeah, Im actually briefly going back inside, so I'll put them on the sign in table!" I thanked them one more time, and then we walked away. I had a great time! I am seeing the show again next month, so I will post a review of that too! Can't wait for many more good times at the Gershwin! :)

Hi Everyone! As you know, I saw Wicked for the 11th time on Saturday, and it was AMAZING. I will have a review up soon, just give me time :)

While I was at Wicked, an official source at the Gershwin (he/she would like to remain unnamed) confirmed to me that Kate Fahrner and Donna Vivino will be the next pair of Glinda/Elphaba standbys. The date for Donna's takeover will be next Tuesday the 23 of August. Kate's is the same.

I actually happened to see Donna coming out of the Gershwin, and talked to her and took a picture with her :) She is so very nice!

Another source has also confirmed to me that Jenny Fellner will be returning to the role of Nessarose at a later date this year :)

Congratulations to the Munchkinland Tour of WICKED, which celebrates its 1,000 performances tonight in Canada!! The Munchkinland Tour Opened on March 12, 2009 starring Marcie Dodd, Helene Yorke, and Colin Donnell. The tour currently stars Anne Brummel, Natalie Daradich, and David Nathan Perlow.

What Wicked Means to Me.

Wicked was my first Broadway show. It was the first show I was ever somewhat familiar with, I remember hearing Defying Gravity the first time, and asking my mom if by "flying off the handle" meant flying off the broom handle. "Did she get hurt?" I always loved the CD whenever my mom would play it in the car on the way home from school. In particular, Defying Gravity ALWAYS stood out to me as an outstanding piece of music, even before I was obsessed with the show. Going off on that topic a bit, I love the music in the show so much. There is not a dull moment in the score. All of the songs are so much fun, but they are so...real, and direct, if you listen to the words. Even Popular holds a political undertone... "Did they have brains or knowledge? Don't make me laugh... they were Popular. Please. It's all about Popular." I think that holds a very important message, and is very relate-able on many levels, again, I love Defying Gravity to pieces. I've listen to countless renditions of it every single day, for the past 6 or so years, and I never have ever once gotten sick of it. For Good is amazing as well. I love the political themes of No Good Deed too, as well as hearing actresses just completely sing their face off. In my opinion there is nothing not to absolutely LOVE about the amazing lights, costume, and sound. I don't know another show that is so visually stunning, or has a cooler, or more unique sound So many different colors, and it's just a very bright show. I love the Emerald City, and Defying Gravity lights. All of the actors in the show inspire me in some way, and I am so happy that so many people who have been IN this show have gone on to have AMAZING careers on Broadway and otherwise, like Idina Menzel, Kristin Chenoweth, Adam Lambert, Norbert Leo Butz, Laura Bell Bundy, Eden Espinosa, Stephanie J. Block, and Aaron Tveit to name a few of the many. I follow all of these people's careers to this day, and they never fail to amaze me. I love everyone who has ever been in WICKED for different reasons. I think the fan base is absolutely amazing. So many people go in expecting to see some lighthearted show, and have a good time, and come out in tears, never to be the same again. I love that everyone has heard of it, and how a part of every day society it has become. It has been referenced, or featured on lots of TV shows (Ugly Betty, The Simpsons, Psych etc..) and referenced in other Broadway shows (Shrek, Nunsense etc...)

I also believe that this show teaches kids, and really, everybody a very important lesson about friendship... Often times people shun other people due to something that makes them different than everyone else. Glinda originally made this mistake with Elphaba. Just because Elphaba is green does not mean she is any better or worse than anyone else. Someone could potentially be your soulmate, and look funny, or speak differently, and you would never know, due to the fact that you do not get to know a person before judging them. I think this is one of the most simple, but important themes in the show.

The biggest reason (Which I didn't fully understand until a few years ago): When people say that everyone can relate to this show, they don't just mean that everyone has been bullied and treated like an outcast in school, and they weren't well liked, even though that is absoulutley true. I have been through it! It happens to everyone at some point in their lives. But the "Green Girl" can literally be ANYONE. People get confused as to why Elphie is such an outcast because she's green. Well, when you are in school, yeah, it might be because you are "green." But in the world, it could be, again, racism, or it could be because you are disabled, or gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender etc..., Middle Eastern, Jewish, Muslim, Christian, overweight, underweight, "ugly", rich, poor etc... as the Wizard says, "The best way to bring folks together is to give them a really good enemy." And unfortunatley, that is true. I am not starting a political debate here, but according to the producers, The Wizard was based on George W. Bush. Today there is discrimination against Iraqi's, simply because of their nationality. We have been led to believe that they are all evil, because of the fact that there is a group of people that do bad things that hail from their country. Gays are also discriminated against in society because they were born a certain way, that they couldn't help. People do not realize that it is the way things are, and it is natural. They were born that way, and it is nothing to be ashamed of. Its being "born green." Elphaba represents so many people.

Many people expect to go see WICKED and thing that it will be a light, fun, but overall meaningless show, but next time you go see it, I encourage you to look deeper into the plot, and see if you understand the deeper meaning. It may take you a while to fully understand some of the political themes, like it did for me, but you will, and you will better understand this amazing story of friendship.

Hey All! So it feels like I am constantly just posting casting updates on here! That is useful, but this is a WICKED fan blog, and I am going to attempt to do more than just post who the next Elphabas and Glindas are from now on! :D I am going to begin posting some things where I just kind of talk about the show itself, and things that Interest me about it. Which is a lot. As most of you know I have seen the show 10 times, with an 11th time hopefully around the corner a bit later this year. I have seen the Broadway company of WICKED 3 times. I have seen the 1st National Tour 6 times. I have seen the Chicago Sit-Down company 1 time. Now i love all the different casts of WICKED quite a bit. They all have something incredibly special about them, even the ones I have not seen! I am just going to take a few minutes to discuss the three companies I have seen. I love the Broadway company for the homeliness it has in the Gershwin Theatre. The Broadway company is also currently a melting pot of previous cast members from many different casts of WICKED, as well as some faces that were never in the show before. I love all of the cast members in the Broadway production. I love seeing people coming to their first Broadway show there, and I love seeing people coming to see it for the 40th time :) Wicked has made such a home in NYC and I love it. I love the 1st National Tour company the most of any other company of WICKED that has ever existed. It is my most seen company, and I have just bonded with the performances on the road. I think they are an extremely tight-knit group, and traveling continues to make the show fresh over and over again, performing in new venues and new cities. I love hearing about cast member's adventures while they are in different cites, and communicating with them. This is not some 3rd Rate Tour, with a downsized set, and a crappy cast. It's the real deal. It is identical to what you would see in NYC. I love the 1st National Tour. Plus, what is not to love about the EXTREMELY kind people that are part of this show? I loved the Chicago company as well. I saw them RIGHT after they opened, at the beginning of an extremely successful 4 year run. I loved that there was a sit-down production of the show that had an equal fan-base (rightfully so) as the Broadway company, and it was directly in the center of the country. It was very accessible, and lots of new talent was "discoverated" there, many of whom have ended up on Broadway, Tour, LA, or San Francisco, and even Down under! There was a strong sense of community pride in Chicago to have such a smash hit musical staying for an indefinite time period. WICKED in Chicago ran longer than the vast majority of shows ON BROADWAY run. That says a lot about the fan-base for this show.

My Next "talking" post will be what I believe the show means, symbolically, and literally to me, and to others.

Hey there, I had a few emails asking about the riots in Vancouver the other night, which partly occurred right outside the Stage Door of the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. Just want to inform everyone that the cast says that they all made it safely back to their hotel, and that everyone is fine! To quote David Nathan Perlow, current Fiyero : " I think it's worth noting that Vancouver as a city is not to blame in any ma...nner for what happened. If you read history or keep up with current events you know that these situations arise very frequently, and rarely are a result of the collective consciousness of a nation or city." Norbert Leo Butz a Tony Winner!

Wicked's original Fiyero, Norbert Leo Butz, won a Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a musical last night for his amazing performance in "Catch Me if You Can" which stars him, and also former Fiyero Aaron Tveit. Congratulations to Norbert, and go see the show! Norbert also won a Tony Award for his performance in "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" in 2005.

The 1st National Tour of WICKED has been running for over 6 years, and been to multiple cities, some of those cities mutiple times. Cast Members have come and gone, cities have booked 2nd, and 3rd engagements, but WICKED, until next week, will not have played at the Nation's Capitol, Washington D.C. since December-January 2005 (06). WICKED will play at the Kennedy Center for ten weeks, making this Tour stop one of the longest, if not THE longest stop the tour has ever made. Jackie Burns, WICKED's current 1st National Touring, High Belting Elphaba, will depart the role of Elphaba after her final performance tomorrow night in Omaha, NE. Jackie replaced Donna Vivino as Elphaba on July 8th, 2010, and after 11 months on the road, she will be getting married! Congratulotions to Jackie, and to previously announced Dee Roscioli for taking over in the role! Defy Gravity to both of them!

Dee Roscioli has (unofficially) announced on her fanpage that she will be replacing Jackie Burns on the 1st National Tour of WICKED. Rumors that Dee will only be a temporary Elphaba to placehold the next one have been neither confirmed or denied. Dee began her time in WICKED in January 2006 when she replaced Kristy Cates as the Standby for Elphaba in the Chicago Production of the musical. She then replaced Kristy as leading Elphaba on December 10th, 2006, and played the role opposite Erin Mackey and Kate Fahrner until June 1st, 2008. She returned to the role of Elphaba in Chicago on August 26th 2008 after a brief vacation, and closed the Chicago company on January 25th 2009. Dee once again returned to the role of Elphaba's standby in early 2009 in the San Francisco company while (current Broadway Elpahaba) Teal Wicks was recovering from vocal issues. She then went on to replace Nicole Parker in the Broadway Production in July 2009, and left the role, replaced by Mandy Gonzalez, on March 21, 2010. Dee will be the first Elphaba to come to the First National Tour of WICKED directly from the Broadway Company since Shoshana Bean in 2006. Best Witches Dee!

Wicked In Buffalo Review!

I saw Wicked in Buffalo at Shea's PAC on Saturday, May 7th, 2011 at 2pm. It had been over a year since I saw the show last so needless to say I was very excited. I went with My Mom, My Best friend, and my other friend and her family. I wanted to Stage Door before the show, because I wanted to meet absolutley everyone. We ate at the Friday's across the street from the Theatre, and me and my two friends left around 12:20. We ran over to the stage door and waited for the cast to start trickling in. After about 15 minutes of waiting, I saw a black haired woman coming toward the stage door, and I recognized her. "Are you Mariand?" She said "Yes, I am!" "Hi, I'm Kyle, we talk on facebook, we just talked the other day?" "Oh, yeah! Hey Kyle, how are you?!" "I'm great! Are you on today?" "Yeah haha I am!" I asked her to sign my grimmerie picture where I put her head over Idina's (picture will come). She spit out laughter. "Oh my gosh, this is so great! I love this!" She wrote' I'm honored you beheaded Idina for me xo, Mariand Torres' she signed my poster, and program, and then took a picture. "Did that turn out?" "Yeah! I also have something for you!" I gave her the drawing I did of her as Elphaba. She looked at it and said "Oh my... Oh my GOSH, YOU drew this? You're amazing!" "Thanks so much Mariand!" As she signed my stuff, I saw Amanda Jane Cooper walking down, and the only thing I could say was "Oh My God, HI!" She said "Oh, hello! How are you?" "Great! How are you?" "I'm good!" I showed her the picture of her in my Grimmerie where I put a pic of her head over Kristin's. She Laughed very very hard. "I can't think of anything funny to write, I'll just sign it for now." She asked my name and I said "Kyle" and she said "Oh! Kyle (My last name)? I JUST Responded to your letter thank you so much for the support!" "My friend Jonathan told me you were great!" "Oh, thank you so much, I think I actually remember him, he was at the stage door in Ft. Lauderdale!" "Yeah!" "Tell him I said hi!" I then gave her the drawing I did of her, and she said "Oh my GOD, you're so talented! You did this?" "Yeah! Thanks so much!" "Do you want me to sign it, or...?" "No, that's for you!" " Thank you so much!" Mariand then said to Amanda "Oh, he did one for you too? Aren't they phenomenal!?" "Yeah!" I then took a picture with Amanda, and she asked how it turned out. "Great, thanks so much Kyle, enjoy the show! See ya after, I can't believe this picture thanks!" She and Mariand then went in. They were both very nice. After about 5 more minutes of waiting, Randy Danson walked down, and I said "Hey Randy, will you sign this stuff?" "Of Course, how are you?" "Great!" I showed her the Grimmerie picture where I put her head over Carole's, and again, she laughed for quite a few minutes actually, and wrote "Finally where I belong, thank you, Randy Danson" "That's quite funny Kyle..." and Chuckled a bit more. I said "I saw you in the It gets better video, and that was great." and she said "thanks, its a great organization!" (for the record I am not gay, bi or transgender, but I fully support all of the above, and the video they did was awesome) She signed my other stuff, and then posed for a picture, where she made sure to hold the picture that I drew for her up so it was in the picture. I said "I hope I did that costume SOME justice" "Oh, it's great, Its actually my favorite one! Thank You so much, enjoy the show!" After that, my mom, and everyone else joined us at the stage door. Next person down was Terra Lynn Arrington. I said "Hi Terra!" and She looked a bit shocked that I knew her name. I said "I've met you several times before, you're awesome!" and She said, "oh, you're Kyle! When did we last see each other...?" I said "I think it was in Buffalo in 08?" she shook her head, and then I said "Oh, never mind it was Cleveland in 09!" and she said "Uh, yeah Thank you I knew it hadn't been that long, you know i left the tour for a while but I came back cause they needed me, so here I am!" She is one of the nicest people ever. Next down was Brandon Tyler, and I asked him if he was Brandon (I recognized him from the It Gets Better video) and he said he was. I asked him to sign, and he did, and then I got a picture with him. He is a very nice guy! (From Here on, I will not really describe the conversations in detail, for the sake of this not being super long) Next was Lauren Ashley Zakrin. I recognized her, and asked her if she was Lauren. She said yes, and I asked her to sign my Wicked Program, Poster, and Legally Blonde Playbill. She did, and we chatted for a few minutes. She was a very quiet person, but she was very nice, and kindly took a picture with me. Then, she went inside. Next down was Renee Lawless Orsini, who I recognized from the last time I saw her. I asked her if she was Renee, and she stopped and signed, and joked around about how I must be "her stalker" because she was only the midwife, and not that important. I asked her if she got my letter, and she said she thought she did. Then Paul Slade Smith came down, and I asked him to sign, and told him he was an awesome Dr. Dillamond. He was very nice as well. He and Renee took a picture with me, then went in. Next in was a group. Philip Dean Lightstone, Bud Weber, Marissa Lupp, Emily Ferranti and Spencer Jones. I talked to each of the four of them for a couple of minutes, which was nice. They are all so kind. I thanked Marissa a few times etc... I asked Marissa if the Man coming toward the Stage Door was Mark Jacoby and she said it was. I asked him to sign. He said sure! He signed all of the stuff at the table, but had to get inside, so he couldn't talk very much, but he seemed very friendly. Kevin Jordan was next, and we talked for a few minutes. He is a very nice person, and an extremely talented dancer, there were several times I could pick him out. Next in was another group: Napoleon Gladney, Brenda Hamilton, Adam Sanford, Luis Figueroa, and Rick Desloge. They all signed for me, and were very nice, and thanked me for coming, and talked for a few minutes. Adam was very nice, and I had no idea at the time that he was actually on for Boq. They were all very nice :) Next was Colin Hanlon. We talked for a good 5 or 6 minutes, he signed all my stuff, and took a picture. He was very Nice, and an excellent Fiyero. Next was Kelly LaFarga, and she signed, and talked for a bit :) Then Christopher Russo walked in. I asked him if he was Christopher, and he said he was, so i told him he was an awesome Dillamond/Witch's father :) The last ones in were Adea Sessoms, and Allison Leo. They were both very nice, and I talked to Allison about Ugly Betty a bit :) Then we went inside....

The Show Started at two, so we left the stage door at about 1:40 to get inside the theatre. I bought some new stuff, including a Wicked Projector pen, which is like a flashlight that projects the logo. We had 5 understudies, three of whom were for the leads. Mariand for Elphaba, Carla for Nessarose, and Adam for Boq. We had Christopher Russo for the Witch's Father, and Allison Leo for the Witch's Mother. This is officially the most understudies I have ever had at WICKED.

Amanda Jane Cooper was absolutley phenomenal as Glinda. She had the perfect voice for the role. I loved her take on the role. She was very funny, but not as Spazzy as Katie or Chandra. Even though she had only been on with Mariand once before, they had excellent chemistry. She got lots of laughs when she came down in the bubble and began talking. Her voice was very high, and clear, and I have a hard time deciding whether of not she was better than Katie Rose Clarke. She is tied or better. I have yet to decide. Her popular reminded me a lot of Kate Reinders and Megan Hilty, and she had no problems maturing for act two. I was very pleased with her Glinda. When she spun her wand in the catfight, she sang this little high note the whole time, and then let off a loud"HA"! Mariand Torres was absolutley phenomenal as Elphaba. I have no Idea why she has not been asked to lead another company. I love Jackie Burns' Elphaba to death, but I think Mariand is a stronger Elphie. Her voice was flawless. She completley knocked "The Wizard and I" out of the park. She really made me feel sorry for Elphaba. I really saw hurt and anger in her, which was excellent, especially when Fiyero walked over the Bridge with Glinda in "I'm Not That Girl." I had chills all throughout Defying Gravity. Her voice was perfect, and she completley NAILED the High F in the "flying portion" of the song. She was excellent. Her catfight scene was amazing, and she had excellent Chemistry with Amanda there. I loved her NGD and FG as well. She had excellent chemistry with Colin in the final scene as well. Colin Hanlon as Fiyero was hilarious. When he first came in in DTL, I found him very funny, and then he sang, and I was a bit worried he wouldn't be able to hit the higher notes, because it sounded like he was pushing a little. Turns out its just the way his voice sounds, and he completley nailed the song. He was hilarious, and the audience really loved him. He really played up the stupidity, and looked shocked when Mariand told him he was more than he seemed. It was great. Carla Stickler is the best Nessarose I have ever seen. Deedee and Jenny are amazing, and I love them both to death, but Carla was excellent. She played the bitchiness of the part up big time, and Mariand always seemed really hurt by her everytime she spoke to her. In the OzDust Ballroom scene, when Mariand walked in with the hat, Carla looked shocked and embarrassed, and wheeled herself over to the side of the stage. Major props for that one. She really made me dislike Nessarose. She also has the strongest voice of any Nessarose I have ever seen. Adam Sanford as Boq was a surprise. He has a very high voice which I think works very well for the character. He's just this munchkin who doesnt like to get in the way, but really had this drive to be with Glinda. He really seemed to like Nessa at first, and then it just got old for him. By act two, he was just whipped. He was great in the Governer's mansion scene. He doesn't beat Brad for me, but he is a close second. Paul Slade Smith was also awesome as Dr. Dillamond. I thought he was very funny in the classroom scene, and the rest of the audience apparently agreed. He got lots of laughs. In act two, after "Wonderful" there were people crying when he started bleating, and Mariand seemed beyond angry with the Wizard there. I think Paul was EXCELLENT. Randy Danson as Madame Morrible has improved SO much since Cleveland. I loved her there. I thought she was funny, and great, but she was MILES better in Buffalo. She made the whole audience laugh, and her voice filled the room. I think she scared the small kids in front of me, which is her job, so Props to her for that. She openly laughed at Glinda in the OzDust Ballroom scene on "I doubt you will." She looked at her, and then cackled that line. When Dr. Dillamond's replacement came into the classroom, she looked pleased to see him, and then covered it up when Mariand began to protest. She was Brilliant. Mark Jacoby was fantastic as the Wizard. Tied with Lee for my favorite. He has the best singing voice of any of the Wizards I have seen, and had a very good grasp on his character. In Wonderful, he did lots of little hand movements, and acted out what he was singing really well. He spun Mariand around alot which was cool. I was very impressed by him.

The Ensemble was also the best I have ever seen them. Their harmonies were very strong, and they were very loud, which is something I really like in an ensemble. I got chills mostly every single time they sung :) Also, I have never seen a stronger Orchestra. The lights were great as well :)

Stage Door: (I'm leaving lots of the details and some of the conversations out here just keep in mind)

We met some people in the theatre who wanted to go, so at curtain call, we ran out and they followed us. The first person out was Brandon Tyler, who signed all of our stuff, and talked to us, "Did you like the show" "Yeah!" "awesome!" etc.... He brought his family backstage. Next out were Lauren Zakrin, Lauren Boyd, and Emily Ferranti. They asked us all if we enjoyed the show, and we all said yes of course. They all asked how many times I had seen it, and I told them 10 :) They were very impressed. Next was Terra, and Carla. I freaked when I saw Carla. "Hey Carla, you were great!" "Thanks so Much!" "I'm Kyle, we spoke on facebook a few days ago, thanks for the messages!" "Oh No problem, Hey Kyle!!" I gave her the drawing I did for her, and she loved it. I took a picture with her, and she thanked me for coming again, and I said "You were the best Nessarose ever." "Oh, thats so sweet thanks!" Then Terra came over, and said Jokingly "Ok Kyle, how many Playbills am I signing?" She is very very nice. Next, Paul Slade Smith came out, and came down to sign for us. I complimented his performance. "Oh, thanks!" He signed my stuff, and everyone else's then left. Colin Hanlon came out next, and signed, and talked to all of us, and took pictures with people. I told him he was great, and he said "Thanks!" Next out was Amanda Jane Cooper, and she signed all of my stuff, and said "When you said you were in the back of the main floor before the show I was thinking you wouldn't be able to see the bubble! Could You...?" "Yeah, the only thing we couldn't see was the dragon." "Oh, well that's not too bad, the Dragon doesn't have much personality... so it's ok. Hey, Kyle, you might get my mail today! I sent it like two days ago, so it should be there soon!" "How Many times have you been on with Mariand?" "This was my...second time" "Oh wow, you guys were excellent together, didn't she go on the last show in Ft. Lauderdale?" "Yeah! You're really smart!" We took pictures with her, and thanked her. She then blew everyone kisses, and left. We were all waiting for Mariand. The family that came down with us was worrying that she wouldn't come out, but I told them she would. Brandon Tyler's Backstage group came out, and I heard him say "Oh, and this is Mariand who was our Elphaba today..." so I spun around, and Mariand walked out! I gave her a copy of "It's not easy being green" and she laughed, and said "Oh thank you so Much!" She signed MY copy, "To Kyle, from Mariand." She didn't even ask my name and she personalized it! She signed all my other stuff, and I told her she was at the top of my Elphaba list. "Oh, thank you! How many times have you seen it...?" "Ten" "Oh, so you know your stuff then! We talked for a few more mintues, and I kept telling her how great she was, and she kept thanking me. She signed everyone else's stuff, took pictures with us, and then asked "Did I get everyone?" She waved to us all, and then left. On the way back to the car, I stopped in the intermission lounge and grabbed a stack of flyers, and then we headed back to the car. Carla, Brandon, and Terra were walking on the sidewalk behind us. It was an amazing day, and a pretty epic 10th time at Wicked. Cannot wait to see the show again!!!

Sorry I have not posted in a bit, lots to do! Tom McGowan is WICKED's New Wizard on Broadway after P.J. Benjamin played the role for nearly three years. He comes to the Broadway company after two engagement's in the 2nd national tour, and I believe is the first principal from the 2nd National tour to come to Broadway, excluding people who went from Broadway to the tour. Hey all, I am seeing the show next Saturday afternoon, and I am very excited. I have heard great things about Amanda as Glinda, which I am very happy about, and i already know that Jackie is phenomenal....

Amanda Jane Cooper will replace Chandra Lee Schwartz as Glinda in Ft. Lauderdale FL on April 19th, after Chandra's April 17th Departure from her nearly 2 years in the role. Cooper has done many regional shows, but WICKED will be her first major show! I will be seeing her May 7th in Buffalo, and will definetley let you know how amazing she is! Laura Woyasz temporarily replaces Katie Rose Clarke, Katie to Return in April

Laura Woyasz, current standby for Glinda on Broadway, will be playing the role of Glinda from Now, until Mid-to-late April, while Katie Rose Clarke recovers from illness. I do not know exactly what Katie has, but I hope she feels better soon. Replacing Laura will be Lindsay K. Northen current u/s.

Laura Woyasz began her time in Wicked in 2006, when she was the Understudy for Glinda on the 1st National Tour. She moved to standby in 2008, in Los Angeles, and Shortly after the LA company closed, she moved to the Broadway Company replacing Katie Adams.

Hey! So There has not been ALL that much to talk about. As you know, Wicked recently celebrated its 7th Anniversary on Broadway. Mandy Gonzalez and Katie Clarke were both in the show that night and I was told it was absolutley amazing! Mandy has oficcially announced that her last performance in the show will be January 9,2011, and her replacement has not yet been announced. There are several casting rumors about the 2NT principals for next year, a few of them which I know to be true, but cannot announce till a later date! hope y'all are well!

Marcie Dodd Set to replace Eden Espinosa in Wicked San Francisco

Marcie Dodd, Wicked's High Belting Elphaba, will replace Eden Espinosa as Elphaba in the San Francisco Production of Wicked on June 29th, 2010. Marcie most recently played the role of Elphaba on the 2nd National Touring Company of WICKED, and played Elphaba for a 3 month stint on Broadway. She was the Standby for Elphaba in the Los Angeles company of Wicked, and Played Nessarose for 6 months there as well. Wicked's Open Ended run in San Francisco, that opened last January, will close this Fall on September 5th. No Leads have been CONFIRMED for the final company, but Rumors include Marcie Dodd as Elphaba, Helene Yorke as Glinda and Cliffton Hall as Fiyero.

There has been Lots of Talk about this production closing and it was confirmed to me this morning by someone who works for the production. There has been lots of talk as well about this production moving to Toronto for a Sit-Down engagement there. Nothing has been confirmed however, and I will Continue to keep you posted. Sydney's original Elphaba, Amanda Harrison, Has decided to leave the role earlier than expected. She claimed that the role took too much out of her emotionally, physically, and spritually, and she needed to leave to perserve her voice. She will be missed!

According to Etai Benshlomo, Wicked San Fran's New Boq, Natalie Daradich will replace Helene Yorke in WICKED as Glinda, for a date TBA. Yay!

Eden Espinosa to return again to the Role of Elphaba in San Francisco.

Eden Espinosa will return yet again to the Role Of Elphaba in WICKED, beginning March 2nd after Teal Wicks Departs in the role. Eden was the Original Standby for Elphaba in the OBC of WICKED, and Replaced Shoshana Bean on Broadway. She did a 6 week engagement on the National Tour during SJB' injruy and Originated and Closed out the LA run. Congrats Eden! We "Couldnt be happier" that one of "Oz's favorite teams" (Eden and Kendra) will be reunited!
